Leigh is a stop-off point for thousands of migrating birds. Brent geese begin arriving from Siberia each September to feed on the eel grass. As the geese disperse in mid-winter, the mud flats and salt marsh come alive with waders such as knot and dunlin, whose giant wheeling flocks are Leigh’s most breathtaking natural spectacle.
